This calculator was in a very nice external condition but internally totally stuck. Like with the CA1-13 lots of hardened oil and grease hampered or even totally blocked movement of many components in the mechanism. WD40 and for some parts a small gas torch were needed to loosen parts.
The machine cover is fastened with four clips, one on each corner. Pry them outward to remove the cover.
Fortunately the CA2-16 is built of a number of modules which can be removed to be separately cleaned.
It took 3 month before finally all parts started moving and were ready to be put back in place. It wouldn’t have been possible without the help of a restoration manual written by Peter Burton.
The motor module is mounted electrically separated from the main chassis. It is therefor safe to operate without a grounded mains connection.
In the switch module, part of the motor module, the spark reduction capacitor needed replacement.
